Called Outside Your Comfort Zone

Does the thought of stepping out of your comfort zone cause every fear inside of you to surface instantly?  Are you afraid that you do not have what it takes to succeed?  Are you convinced Jesus will be disappointed by your efforts, so you dare not try to obey Him?

I wish I could say that fear, doubt, and insecurities were never issues for me, but I constantly confront them whenever Jesus challenges me or leads me into new territories.

Here are some things I have learned that help me overcome my fears and hesitations in these instances:

  • Do Not Fear “Fear.”

Rather than being afraid of fear,  I should expect fears to surface whenever Jesus calls me into unknown territories.  Expecting it helps me not to be taken by surprise when it surfaces.

  • Press Through The Fear.

Rather than trying to eliminate my fears and obey Jesus once they disappear, I must obey His promptings despite fear’s presence.

  • Focus on Obedience.

Rather than focusing on and criticizing my “inabilities,” I must obey God’s calling and trust the Holy Spirit to work through me to accomplish what He is leading me to do.

Jesus calling us out of our comfort zone is not only an opportunity for us to rise above our fears and grow in obedience but a chance to see Him move powerfully in other people’s lives for their good and His glory!

Are you letting your fears overcome your faith and obedience?
