Discovering Your Gifts And Calling

Have you wondered if you have spiritual gifts or how to discern your calling?  Every born-again believer has at least one gift and an accompanying calling to use it for God’s glory.

Here are six ways to help you discover your spiritual gifts and calling:

  1. Identify Spiritual Gifts in Scripture.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, 28-31, and Romans 12:6-8 to understand what the 16 spiritual gifts are.

  2. Ask God.

Ask God to confirm which spiritual gifts He gave you.  Although every believer possesses at least one gift, it is not uncommon for each to have more than one.

  3. Ask Others.

Ask other believers what spiritual gifts they see operating in you.  Often, others can see things in us that we fail to see in ourselves.

  4. Identify Your Burdens.

What group of people or type of work are you drawn to the most?

  5. Identify the Needs.

What specific need(s) do you feel the strongest pull toward helping meet?

  6. Identify the Causes.

What causes are you most passionate about?

The answers to these questions will help indicate who Jesus wants you ministering to, where He wants you serving, and what He wants you doing for the Kingdom of God.  Give the most time and attention to sharpening your strongest gifts.

Remember, fulfillment and favor come from serving well, so be a good steward of what God has given you.
