Frustration Over God's Timing

Teaching God’s Word and defending the faith have always been a part of my calling.  For years, I have taught Bible studies, participated in online apologetics forums, answered Bible questions, and even published an apologetics resource book.  But about six years ago, I felt an intense burden for “more” while experiencing “divine disenchantment” over what I was doing.

After sharing this burden with a friend, they sent me this quote by Erwin McManus, which reads, “If you were meant to fly, not even running really fast is that impressive."

This quote encapsulated everything I was feeling!

I was no longer satisfied with how much I had been doing.  I knew Jesus had more for me – I felt He had more, and I was ready for every bit of it He had.

I wasted no time in praying for additional opportunities to minister to others.  I knocked on figurative doors.  I offered to do “this” over here.  I proposed doing “that” over there.  But no matter how hard I tried, every door seemed to slam in my face.

Finally, my husband said, “Babe, you just need to cool your jets and wait on God’s timing.”  I did not want to hear that.  It made me mad!  I thought, “Why would Jesus give me this intense passion for more ministry if He didn’t want me doing it now?”

It turns out, my husband was right.  I needed to wait on God's timing for things to line up.  Meanwhile, I had to be faithful to what Jesus already called me to do while I waited.

What about you? Are you waiting on God’s timing for something, but it has not arrived yet?  Are you frustrated about having to wait?  Do you feel like it will never happen?

I encourage you to continue trusting Jesus, knowing He is working behind the scenes on your behalf.  Be faithful with what He has given you to do as He prepares what is coming next.  If something is “of God,” it will come to pass in His timing.
