The Bottom Dropped Out

Have you ever felt like you were lying on the side of the road, emotionally wounded and run over, but then someone came along and picked you up, dusted you off, and helped you walk again?

I have been in that position several times.  One time, after feeling like the bottom had dropped out from underneath me, I struggled to make sense of what I was feeling.  Despite the situation being out of my control, I was left holding a bag of emotions I did not want to carry.  I was angry, frustrated, resentful, disgusted, and disappointed on levels I had never reached before.  But then, amidst my despair, Jesus intervened.

He literally hand-picked an individual who walked by my side throughout my ordeal.  This person gave me permission to own and express my feelings.  They showed compassion and concern for my pain.  They invested time to help me work through the various stages of my healing.  Although the journey was painful, the comfort and encouragement I felt from their genuine care and friendship helped me in ways I cannot express.  There is something about a compassionate heart that heals as nothing else can.

People are hurting all around us.  They are going through silent trials alone and need to know someone cares enough to stand in the gap with them.  Jesus could step down from heaven and do the job Himself, but He calls us – His children – to be His hands and feet to the hurting.

How will you reach out today to show God’s love to someone who needs it?
