Underestimating The Power Of A Strong Marriage And Stable Home

We made our marriage top priority right from the start.

Both sets of our parents had been married a few decades when we got married.  One thing we learned from watching them was to prioritize each other over everyone and everything else except Jesus.

Knowing we would start working together in full-time ministry immediately after our honeymoon, my husband and I made a crucial decision: Our marriage would be #1, even above our ministry.  We understood the difference between our personal relationships with Jesus and our calling to ministry, so we put our newly formed family first.

Like most young people in love, we did not anticipate our commitment being put to the test multiple times, but it was.  Satan continually tried to divide and distract us, even using “ministry” to try and shift our priorities off of each other.  But we remained faithful to our promise.

Almost ten years into our marriage, our daughter was born.  A few years after her birth, our son arrived and completed our family.  After Satan’s many failed attempts of the past, we naively assumed that he would give up and move on.  But we underestimated the power of a strong marriage and stable home – and Satan’s desire to destroy both.

He relentlessly tries to wedge his foot into the framework of our marriage to destroy it because if he could do that, the domino effect would be devastating!  Our children, our family, and our ministry would all become casualties of war if we were not careful.

Marriage has not always been easy, but we are still going strong after 32 years together.  What about you?  Are you struggling in your life, ministry, or marriage today?
