The Art of Compromise
It was almost summertime, which meant it was time to plan our annual vacation to a nearby lake. When my husband brought up scheduling our trip, my enthusiasm was non-existent.
I had experienced burnout the past few trips after having done the same thing at the same place for the past two decades. I was ready to experience new places, new adventures, and new scenery—but I suppressed my feelings because my husband and kids loved the lake so much.
This time around, I could not hold back.
After sharing my feelings with my husband, he was initially disappointed. But after several honest and thorough conversations on the subject, our understanding of each other grew, and we employed the art of compromise like never before.
Honest and straightforward discussions in marriage are essential for growing our bond and deepening our relationship with our spouse. They are not always easy to have or work through, but the fruit they can produce is well worth the effort.
What honest and straightforward discussions have brought you and your husband closer? I would love to hear about them in the comments.
