Four Essentials For A Healthy Marriage

What element makes a marriage healthy and successful?  Is it mutual interests?  Financial stability?  Having children?  Owning a home?  These components are all blessings, no doubt.  But can marriages be healthy without them?  Absolutely!

Healthy, successful marriages are built on a foundation of (at least) four key elements:

  1. Dedication.

Spouses committed to each other “until death do us part” provide the security needed for the relationship to grow and flourish.  Dedication is also the engine that helps fuel conflict resolution.

  2. Respect.

Spouses respecting each other breeds unity and nurtures contentment within their marriage.  Respect enables them to grow together while still embracing their God-given individuality.

  3. Love.

Spouses who love each other will demonstrate it through their actions.  God defines love as patient, kind, humble, trusting, respectful, selfless, forgiving, and full of hope toward one another.

  4. Fidelity.

Spouses who are enduringly faithful prevent all types of betrayal from entering the relationship and bringing destruction.

There are many other elements to a healthy marriage.  But these four serve as building blocks to help facilitate the blessed relationship God designed couples to experience.  He never promised it would be easy, but the payoff is well worth the investment!
