Emotional Intimacy Requires Vulnerability

I remember the first time Joe opened up to me and let me inside.  It was an intense and emotional conversation, with him being completely vulnerable and transparent with me.

It took a lot of courage for him to share his heart.  However, if he did not trust me or us as a couple, it would not have occurred.

Jesus used that conversation as a turning point in our relationship, which set the tone for 32 years of shared emotional intimacy in our marriage. But it all began with trust and a willingness to be vulnerable with each other continually.

Do you want greater emotional intimacy with your spouse?  Begin by creating an atmosphere of safety for him to open his heart.  Remember: intimacy, trust, and vulnerability go hand-in-hand.  Where one is absent, the others will also be missing.
