The Fear Of The Unknown
Are you scared of becoming a different person as you grow spiritually?
Before I got saved, I was so afraid that Jesus would turn me into someone else, that it kept me from surrendering my heart to Him for months.
The fear of the unknown is a powerful force. But what I have learned since giving my life to Jesus almost 33 years ago is this: God did not make a mistake when He created me. He gave me my personality and everything else that makes me “Kris.” Jesus was not out to turn me into someone else but to make me a better, godlier version of who I already was!
The same is true of you! Jesus has great plans for you to blossom into the godlier version of who He created you to be also. But fear can get in the way and hinder your spiritual growth if you let it.
Here are three things you can do not to let “the fear of the unknown” stop you from growing spiritually and becoming everything Jesus wants you to be:
Trust Jesus
Jesus made you “who” you are (Psalm 139:14). But He loves you too much to leave the sinful parts of you intact. Continuously allow Him to transform you from the inside out while He preserves the essence of who you are.
Believe God’s Word
The Bible says God is for us and not against us (Romans 8:31). It also says Jesus began and will complete the good work He started in each of us (Philippians 1:6). Trust what God’s Word says over what you might think or feel.Read God’s Word Daily
Faith is the antidote for fear. As we read the Bible, Jesus increases our faith (Romans 10:17) and equips us to be who He desires us to be (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Feed your spirit by spending time reading at least one chapter of God’s Word each day. Be consistent with it, and you will see the Holy Spirit transform your mind and heart.
