Stuck In Neutral Over God's Will

Often, we define “God’s will for us” as receiving information catered to our unique lives and situations. We want to know exactly what to do, so we wait for heaven to open and the answers to fall from the sky.

However, Jesus has already revealed His will for us through His Word, giving us detailed instructions on what He wants us to do, no matter what situations we face in life.

Here are a few key components of God’s will to employ in our lives, not just daily but throughout each day:

  1. Love God Genuinely (Matthew 22:37)

When we love God, we seek to glorify Him in the things we do.  Does your daily life and activity reflect your love for Jesus?

  2. Love Others Sincerely (Matthew 22:39)

When we truly love others, we put their needs first, treat them respectfully, and genuinely care about what they are going through.  Does your daily life demonstrate love toward others?

  3. Obey God’s Written Word (James 1:22)

If we want to please Jesus, we must do what He says.  Are you a doer of God’s Word or a hearer only?

  4. Be Grateful (1 Thessalonians 5:16)

Things may not always be “roses and lollipops,” but life could be much worse than it is.  Are you thankful for what you have or guilty of complaining about what you do not have?

Practicing these virtues every day will move your relationship with Jesus forward and get you out of neutral.  Plus, the Holy Spirit will take the principles you read from God’s Word and help you apply them to your unique personal life and situations so you will know how to navigate them.

Which of these virtues comes easy to you, and which one is a constant struggle?
