When Dreams Come Crashing Down

In early 2018, my ministry life took an unexpected turn – one that I had fought against for decades.  With it, all my built-up hopes, dreams, and plans came crashing down with a loud thud.

During the previous two years, I finally gained traction on my calling from God, which was something foreign to me.  I had recently experienced a calling apart from my husband’s, whereas, before, my calling was to help him fulfill his.

I had worked diligently from 2016-2018 with my husband and a mentor to flush out my ideas and formulate my plans to implement my calling.  Everything was in writing, plans were created, and printing materials were ready for the presses when, suddenly, the bottom fell out!

Everything was put on hold when my husband was offered a full-time ministry position over 100 miles away.  This ministry opportunity also required my mentor’s time, energy, and focus, which took him away from helping me further.  Honestly, I was devastated.  It seemed like every time I took one step forward, there were five giant steps backward for me to take.

I really thought my calling would never be realized.  I even questioned whether it was a God-ordained calling at all or just something “I” wanted to accomplish instead.

Looking back now, and with hindsight being 20/20, I realize my planning and diligence were not in vain.  It was just the wrong timing for those things to come to pass.  I am still waiting for some of those dreams and plans to come to fruition.  But while I wait, I am also busy fulfilling other elements of my calling in ways I never anticipated.

Seasons of frustration or waiting on God can test our patience and make us question so many things.  But, if we are ultimately seeking Jesus for His will and direction, we are assured that He will direct our path according to His will, timing, and purpose (Proverbs 3:5-6;  1 John 5:14-15).

Are you ready to give up on the dreams and plans God planted in your heart because they have not yet come to pass?  Let me know in the comments if you need prayer.
