Keep Going When Nobody Cares

I remember when I was so excited about a new opportunity to teach God’s Word to women.  It was at a Christian school, and I had high hopes for women to attend.  After the school and I advertised the Bible study through various means, you can imagine my disappointment and shame when nobody showed up.

I was reminded in the days following this “failure” that my obedience results are not up to me.  It is Jesus who calls and equips, and I am responsible for responding and obeying, leaving the outcome up to Him.

Here are three things to keep you encouraged in ministry when nobody else seems to care:

  1. Focus on Jesus.

You ultimately serve an audience of one, Jesus.  Your goal should be to please Him whether others show interest in your calling or not.  Remember Colossians 3:23.

  2. Stay the Course.

Remain faithful to your calling, knowing that the reward for your obedience is great in heaven.  Remember Colossians 3:24.

  3. Trust the Process.

Jesus uses our obedience to get us from point A to B in our calling, often allowing seasons of “isolation” to prepare us for what is coming next.  So, trust the process instead of judging what you see.  Remember Romans 8:28.

I know these components are not easy to do.  Doubt and discouragement can take over so quickly to where we question whether God has even called us in the first place.  But keep pressing on!  It will be worth it in the end.

Have you ever wondered if anything you are doing for Jesus makes any difference? Let me know in the comments.
