How Could Such Certainty Crumble In An Instant?

For months, Jesus had been intensifying a burden and passion within me to teach His Word and defend the faith. But this calling was vastly different than the one He had me fulfilling for the past two decades. So, I was confused.

At first, I tried to suppress my feelings because this new calling didn’t “fit” the ministry I was used to doing full-time. But I could not deny what I was sensing.

Certain that this burden was from Jesus and needed to be acted upon immediately, I confided in my best friend—hoping to receive confirmation and encouragement to press forward.

To my surprise, their response was unenthusiastic, and the words “cool your jets” rolled off their tongue with ease.

I remember feeling discouraged, defeated, and frustrated afterward, questioning if my intensified burden was actually “of God.” I was also angry for getting pushback instead of the support and encouragement I expected.

Fast forward several years later.

Since hindsight is “20/20,” I look back now and see Jesus was behind my friend’s deterrent. He was not using their resistance to bring my calling into question but to keep me from pursuing it prematurely.

Jesus also taught me a valuable lesson about His timing—helping me understand the equal importance between my calling and its implementation.

What about you? Has Jesus called you to do something, but you feel stuck in neutral without any doors opening to implement it? What are you doing in the interim as you wait on Jesus’ timing? Let me know in the comments.
