Identifying Your Gifts And Calling

Not knowing your spiritual gifts and calling is like receiving a beautifully wrapped Christmas present but never opening it to see what is inside!  The Holy Spirit intentionally gave you what He did because He wants you to be “the hands and feet of Jesus” in others’ lives.

Here are a few ways to help you uncover or discover your gifts and calling:

• Make a List. Write a list of the gifts that seem to apply to you, according to 1 Corinthians 12.  You might be surprised by how many you possess.

• Confirm with Others. Bring your list to other believers who know you well.  Ask them if they see those gifts in you or if they see different ones.

• Pray for Discernment and Confirmation. Ask Jesus to confirm which gifts you have.

• Pinpoint Your Interests. Ask yourself what type of ministry or work interests you the most.

• Discover Causes or Needs. Ask yourself what needs you are the most passionate about meeting and how you want to make a difference in those areas.

• Pray for Opportunities to Serve. Ask Jesus to open doors for you to use your gifts according to your calling.

Once you have done these things, go for it!  Start ministering with your gifts in the areas Jesus directed you to.  If you are fearful or apprehensive, then welcome to ministry!  We all face emotional roadblocks when stepping out by faith.  But press through it and trust Jesus to be with you.  Remember: The Holy Spirit did not gift you by accident but intentionally.  You can do this!
