When You Have Difficulty Saying “No”

Saying “no” to anyone or anything seems to go against the very grain of who God created us to be as women.  We enjoy serving others and showing love through our actions.

But we also experience guilt when we are not “all things to all people,” so we tend to say “yes” no matter the request.  Either that, or we feel obligated to say “yes” because we never want others viewing us as unloving or uncaring.

If you struggle with saying “no,” you are not alone.  It is a common challenge for many of us.  However, the danger in saying “yes” to others is doing so without consulting Jesus’ will and direction first.  That leads to involvement in things God has not led us to, rendering us unavailable for the tasks He desires for us.

Jesus modeled this important principle in John 5:1-15 when He healed the man at Bethesda.  His example of focused obedience to His Father, despite the many other needs surrounding Him, teaches us “The Art of Saying No.”

My free Bible study epitomizing this principle is available on my website.  The study is called “Helplessly Helpless” and is available in E-book or physical booklet formats. Just click “Bible Studies” from the menu to access this free resource.
