Overcoming Doubts About Your Calling

I cannot tell you the number of times I have questioned whether something I felt led to do was from God or me!  I fear wasting time doing what I am not supposed to do.  But I also fear not doing what I am supposed to do because self-doubt and uncertainty get in the way.

Here are three things that help me overcome my doubts and “go for it,” even when I am not 100% certain of anything:

  1. Trust My “Ears.”

I realize Jesus will not write His plans for me in the sky but speaks quietly to my spirit instead.  I have already trusted Jesus to speak.  I need to trust what my “ears” hear from Him instead of dismissing it, thinking, “There’s no way that’s God!”

  2. Be Willing to Fail.

I will never do God’s will perfectly, so I need to be vulnerable enough to allow myself to miss the mark and make mistakes.  I cannot wait for Jesus’ “Five Year Plan” for my life before acting because – if I do – I will be waiting forever.  Me wanting more details when Jesus has given me sufficient information to act upon results in my disobedience, not my “diligent obedience.”

  3. Follow the Steppingstones.

Sometimes, Jesus will direct me to do something that does not make sense to my sensibilities.  I may not understand what He is doing or how “this” works with “that.”  But my job is to be faithful to obey each steppingstone He places in my path regardless.  Letting self-doubt or human logic interfere will not lead me to fulfill Jesus’ ultimate calling for my life.

We all experience setbacks from self-doubt, uncertainty, and insecurities.  But my question to you is, “Will you take one baby step and let go of those things – just for today – and do one thing Jesus is leading you to do?”

I know it will not be easy...
I know you are afraid...
I know it will feel uncomfortable and exposing...

But I will be with you prayerfully on the sidelines, cheering you on when you are ready!

Are you ready?  Type “Yes!” in the comments and let me know.
